Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that they need huge financial resources for Russia's “military operation” in Ukraine. Speaking at the University of Finance, located in the capital Moscow, Siluanov said that they will spend 8 trillion rubles this year on financial incentive packages. Pointing out that 600 billion rubles are required this year for pension payments and 1 trillion rubles next year, Siluanov said: “Huge financial resources are also needed to conduct special military operations. These are quite large resources. We need these resources to support the economy and our citizens,” he said. Siluanov did not give figures on how much Russia is spending on the war in Ukraine. The Russian economy is expected to shrink by at least 10 percent this year due to the extensive sanctions imposed by Western countries over the war in Ukraine.
